I would like to update everyone on what has been going on with the Rosado family.

Lisa and Will have moved away from Tampa, not far though, but closer to my husband and I. Lisa and Will are having a rough time coping with their loss as we all are and as everyone can imagine.

The month of May has been especially difficult as May 4th was one month since the fire and since Gavin passed away. Then May 9th was one month since Sebastian passed away and the 11th would have been his second birthday. Then of course Sunday was Mother's Day, so I don't have to explain how hard that was for Lisa. This will be hard for all of us for a very long time and I want to urge everyone who lives in, or has family who lives in a mobile home to be very aware of their safety.

Make sure that you have as many working smoke detectors as possible, have a plan in case of a fire. And if you live in a mobile home park, make sure that the park has competent maintenance personnel on staff. The park owners should be held responsible for any unsafe living conditions, if they are not going to be diligent with maintenance, then the tenants should make them be in whatever way is necessary for the safety of themselves and their children. We do not want to see another family go through what we have been going through.

And I wanted to let everyone know that your pets are precious to you as well, as we found out with Lisa and Will. Their dog, Roscoe also perished in the fire, but not before he woke Lisa and Will up that night and alerted them about the fire. He is the reason that they were able to get out in time. After they moved, a friend gave them another dog and they named her Angel. The name is special to Lisa and Will because after the loss of Gavin and Sebastian friends and relatives gave them many statues and figurines of angels, so when the new dog came along, it seemed appropriate to name her Angel.

We want to thank everyone who cared enough to be there for all of us, and we all want to say THANK YOU to everyone who made donations to Lisa and Will. You have no idea how much that has helped them in getting back on their feet. They are overwhelmed with gratitude and will be sending personal thank you's to most, and because some donations were made anonymously, they want to thank those kind people as well. They still need everyone's prayers, so please keep them in your thoughts.

(From <a href="http://www.hyscience.com/archives/2006/04/a_message_from_1.php"target=_blank"">Hyscience) Friday, we posted on the funeral of <a href="http://www.hyscience.com/archives/2006/04/posting_delayed.php"target=_blank"">Gavin And Sebastian Rosado, the two children that died as a result of a tragic fire that swept through their family home. This morning, we received the following email from the maternal grandmother.

This really happened:
April 14, 2006 was a very sad day for the family of Gavin and Sebastian Rosado; but at the end of the funeral service an amazing thing happened that gave us all a sense of peace and let us know that we should not be so sad.

After the ministers had finished speaking, Lisa and Will, Gavin and Sebastian's parents, released two white doves in honor of the boys. These two doves flew away into the distance. Then I, the boys maternal grandmother, and Carmen Rosado, the boy's paternal grandmother, released two more white doves. These two doves did not leave though, they flew to the trees above the tent where the two babies caskets were, and just sat there, looking down on us. While Lisa and I remained too overwraught with grief to do much more than just continue sitting under the tent looking at the two tiny white caskets, the two white doves flew down out of the tree and landed in front of us.

The dove actually walked around in front of Lisa for about 5 minutes and then left again. Jason, the friend and neighbor who had tried twice unsuccessfully to go through a window the night of that awful fire - in an attempt to save the children, was standing nearby when Lisa walked over to put her arm around him and comfort him. Since the fire, Jason had been very depressed and felt as though he had let everyone down. All of a sudden one of the white doves flew down and landed on Lisa's arm that was around Jason. Will, the children's father also walked over and the dove stayed there with the three of them for about 10 minutes.

It was then that the second white dove flew down from a tree above and landed on one of the caskets, and the one sitting on Lisa's arm that was around Jason's shoulder with Will next to him, flew over and landed on the other casket. Incredibly, the two white doves sat on Gavin and Sebastian's gaskets for about 30 minutes.

They alternately sat together on each casket, then would separate and sit separately on the two caskets, as all of us watched in amazement.

After a while, as everyone finally left little by little, the doves remained on the two little caskets. As everyone drove away from the cemetery, I looked over one more time as we drove out along the main road outside of the cemetery and the doves were still there. Even the workers who stay behind after everyone has left seemed to be in awe of what was happening, so much so that they seemed reluctant to do anything as long as the doves remained on the caskets.

All of us feel as though Gavin and Sebastian were somehow giving us a message, letting us know it was alright to let them go. That they were at peace and not to worry about them.

We will miss those little boys for the rest of our lives, they were our special little angels and we were given a gift for the short time we had them, but we left that day from the cemetery with smiles on our faces because we know in our hearts that those little white doves were letting us know that all was well.

Mardi Brenner
Maternal Grandmother
So, message of hope - or just happenstance? Regardless what you choose to believe, two white doves after being released, returned to stay with a family mourning over the sudden tragic loss of two beautiful little children, and one of the doves stayed first on the shoulder of the boy's mother, and then, joined by the other, remained on those tiny little caskets until all of the family had finished saying their goodbyes, and left.

You decide!

On April 6 we posted on the firefighter in Tampa, Florida that dove through the window of a burning mobile home in a failed <a href="http://www.hyscience.com/archives/2006/04/firefighter_div_1.php"target=_blank"">attempt to save 3-year-old Gavin Rosado. Gavin's brother, Sebastion, was critically injured at the time and taken to Tampa General Hospital where he clung to life in the pediatric intensive care unit. The family's rented mobile home was completely destroyed in the fire, as was all of their worldly possessions.

Sadly, this afternoon little 1-1/2-year-old Sebastian Rosado lost his battle for life.

A funeral for both children is presently being scheduled for some time later this week and will be held at the Marsicano Funeral Home on Henderson Blvd. in Tampa. The children will be buried side by side.

Our prayers go out to Will and Lisa Rosado, and all of their family - many of whom I have personally met with during these last few days of great sadness over Gavin's death, and prayerful hope that Sebastian would survive. I have never met a more loving family, and have been deeply moved by their willingness to allow me to share their sadness with them.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is accepting donations in behalf of the Will and Lisa Rosado - at Rosadokids.org. The family's needs are significant, and their tragedy is beyond words. The family had no insurance of any kind.

Those seeking further details should email Hyscience for more information.

The <a href="http://www.hyscience.com/archives/2006/04/firefighter_div_1.php"target=_blank"">original story is here. The family's <a href="http://www.rosadokids.org"target=_blank"">temporary website is here, still under construction.

William Rosado embraces firefighter Mark Neal, who dived into the burning mobile home (tbo.com).

William (Will) Rosado couldn't stop his tears Wednesday when he saw Tampa firefighter Mark Neal. Only the night before Rosado's 3-year-old son, Gavin Bryant Rosado, had died when flames and smoke swept through the mobile home he shared with his wife Lisa and their two children.

Three-year-old Gavin Rosado died in the fire that ravaged the home (tbo.com)

His 23-month-old son, Sebastian, now lies in critical condition, clinging to life in Tampa General Hospital. The mobile home and all of his family's wordly possessions were destroyed by the fire. Now they can only pray that Sebastian can hang on and survive the burns over 30% of his little body and the damage to his lungs from smoke inhalation.

Upon meeting Neal, Rosado hugged him and broke down in tears:
(<a href="http://www.tbt.com/tampabay/news/article20467.ece"target=_blank"">tbt.com) "Thank you," Rosado, 33, told Neal, as he crumpled into his arms.

It was Neal who pulled the lifeless body of Gavin Rosado from trailer No. 113 at Britts Mobile Home Park, at 3125 W Hillsborough Ave. Neal, who has a 2-year-old son, cried as he embraced Rosado.

In his hands, Rosado clutched a wooden plaque that had a picture of a young boy and the partial Bible text, "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for.'' He had salvaged it from the charred remains.

Rosado spoke of his surviving son, Sebastian, who is in Tampa General. " He's really bad. I'm hoping he pulls through it, because I don't want to bury two babies this weekend. Just one is enough."
I spent much of today at the hospital with the family as they waited to hear word about Sebastion and struggled with their grief over the loss of Gavin. However, while Sebastion and Gavin rested heavily on their shoulders and occupied most of their thoughts, there were brief moments when their thoughts drifted to other concerns, like the frustration they felt over some of the inaccurate information that has been reported in the news media, inaccuracies like the statement in today's <a href="http://www.tbt.com/tampabay/news/article20467.ece"target=-blank"">tbo.com article: "Rosado and the children's mother, Lisa Smith, told investigators that they had been burning candles to save on their electric bill. The cause of the fire has not been determined."

In addressing this particular remark as he read it to me from the article, Will Rosado, obviously frustrated and with tears in his eyes, said that he had no idea how reporters could have misquoted comments he made in the midst of just having had his children pulled from the fire.
I don't know where the reporters got that from, ... I never said that.

I only said that I didn't know, that I had lit a candle earlier before we went to bed ... my girl and I usually just sit together a little while before we go to bed ...we like the candle light ... everyone knows I'm super hyper about making sure everything is off all the time, my girl and me are always very vigilant about our sons' safety. I'm almost a fanatic about things like that ... about the overall safety of our children.

Everyone knows I never try to save electricity... I only worry about my kids! Candles for electricity? .... Crazy!

We'd been having electrical problems there... One night when we were watching TV everything on the left side of the trailer went off ... later, the electrician .. the landlord called a electrician in, and they fixed a wire or something back in the boy's room. I was frantic and upset when whoever was asking me questions, my kids were in the fire.. Why would the reporter say that stuff?

The fire department or the police, ask dad .. called him and told it that it was faulty wiring of an appliance or from the trailer.
Tragically, the family was already in the process of moving to be closer to Lisa's family in another county, and would have been out of the trailer in just two more days.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is accepting donations in behalf of the family - at Rosadokids.org. The family's needs are significant, and their tragedy is truly gut-wrenching.

Sunday afternoon update: <a href="http://www.hyscience.com/archives/2006/04/family_looses_s.php"target=_blank"">Little Sebastian Rosado has died.
